This is the first of what I suspect may be several posts about this ride. I’ve been targeting this ride since last summer – at the time I had no idea that I’d go nuts in May and climb everything in sight on my Trusty Trek Hybrid. Then I signed up and joined Team Fatty and started my rather poor efforts at fundraising (With LOTS of kudos to my stalwart band of supporters / donors). Even the addition of a great wine / cheese drawing didn’t make much of an impression on our potential donors (although again, my stalwart band of existing donors were thrilled to be grandfathered in).
In any case, I got a chance to talk with a friend who has completed treatment for cancer just in the past year (and who is a leading stalwart band member) and he was able to describe in wonderfully direct terms just what Livestrong meant for him. At the time of his diagnosis, he had his Doctor’s plan for treatment in hand, but really didn’t have any idea about what lay ahead, what questions to ask, or really any firm ideas about how to proceed. He found the Livestrong site early on and found it to be a wealth of information about, well, just everything. Questions to ask, options to consider, nutrition and wellness information – He feels that armed with this information he was much more successful in navigating through the experience.
So… how do you join my stalwart band? Glad you asked: just go HERE – every bit helps.
The Drawing: It’s probably best if you’re local, I’m not sure about shipping wine and whatnot, but for each 5$ of your donation (e.g. $100 is 20) you get an entry in a drawing to win a couple of *very nice* bottles of wine and some thoughtfully selected cheeses to accompany them. We’ll do the drawing AFTER June 23rd, when I get back from the ride and when Rombauer Chardonnay is back in stock at Bevmo.
